Cleaning the Windows at the SLB

If you passed by the Stewart Library Building on Tuesday you might have seen these workers from Coastal Sun Services cleaning the windows. In two full days of work this crew cleaned all the windows in the building, inside and out. It hasn’t been done for many years. They did a great job that can be seen throughout the building.

Funds to pay for the work came from the Stewart Library Building Maintenance Endowment Fund. This fund, invested at the Maine Community Foundation, was established by the Stewart Library Building Preservation Group and the Town using a major grant from the Next Generation Foundation and generous private donations. The interest earned provides the town with a yearly payout that can be used only to pay for a specific list of maintenance items in the Stewart Library Building.

Maintenance care of the Stewart Library Building is a long term proposition. After examining the building, the architects and engineers involved in the preservation projects told us that, if cared for properly the building would last another hundred years. The endowment fund was established to supplement Corinna’s continued commitment to maintain this historic and architectural treasure.
