The new addition to the Stewart Library Building is taking shape. In this photo taken on January 20 you can see the steel structure in place and the yellow insulation material for the brick and trim has been attached.
The open area that extends up the side will be glass. The second floor platform at the top of the stairs is visible. The overhang at the very right will be the canopy over the entrance. A walkway from the parking lot will lead up to the new entrance, providing handicapped access to the building.
The existing windows that can just be seen inside of the addition will be replaced with doorways into the former stairway tower. The elevator lobbies will be just inside of those doors with the elevator to the right as you enter.
The completion date for this work and the other parts of the Phase Two Project, including the new building-wide sprinkler system, is still set for June 1.
I still can’t believe this is really happening. Can’t wait to see the look on my Mother’s face when she can take a ride in the new elevator.
