The Phase Two construction and renovation project at the Stewart Library is almost complete. The new scheduled finish date is July 12, 2016. The project includes repairs to the building exterior, the new accessible entrance and stairway, and the installation of an elevator and lobbies. The elevator will be usable as soon as a state inspector issues a certificate. The windows and the side entry porches have been repaired and restored to the original brown color. The building now has a modern fire alarm system and sprinklers on all floors.
The exterior of the building was cleaned and sealed. This photo was taken June 15. Looking good.
We are forwarding this great news to our children Mark, Kate, and Andrew STEWART Biscoe. Andy is currently deployed with the USAF for six months in Kuwait.
So great to hear that namesakes and other family members around the world will hear of the preservation of the building.
Levi’s mother (Eliza Merrick Stewart) was my 4x great aunt! I couldn’t be more excited about this building!
Nedra- Thank you for your comment. I apologize that it took so long for it to be posted. We are always pleased to hear from Stewart decedents.
Looking good indeed !!! We were in Corinna a couple of weeks ago and had an opportunity to view the almost-completed addition. What an absolutely seamless design – it looks terrific from every angle. Kudos to you all who have so patiently shepherded this project to its hugely successful completion !!!!
Jane and Mark- There have been many positive comments about the design of the addition. We worked with the architect and the Maine Historic Preservation Commission to develop a design that would keep the building on the National Register of Historic Places and provide the safety and accessibility upgrades needed.
